5 MUST-HAVE ITEMS TO NEVER SET SAIL WITHOUT

Spending a day on the water is a fun and exciting adventure for everyone. Whether you’re looking to have a wild party or enjoy a quiet day of fishing, sailing gets you and your friends out on the water. When packing your bags, consider these five must-have items to never set sail without if you want to ensure a safe, memorable, and stress-free day.

SUNBLOCK

We cannot stress enough the value of sunblock on a sailing trip. Even the most relaxing, wonderful day out on a boat can turn sour once sunburn starts to show up. Avoid burns with a strong sunblock applied to all exposed skin to keep yourself safe.

EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT

You never know what’s going to happen on a boat. If you get stranded on a body of water, it’s a good idea to have emergency equipment like communication gear, flare guns, and first aid kits. Most boats should have some of this equipment on board, but packing charger packs and cables for your phone is recommended.

RATIONS

Among the must-have items to never set sail without are a good supply of rations. Snacks and non-perishable food fend off hunger no matter how long you’re on the ship. To avoid dehydration, we recommend avoiding salty snacks, like crackers or potato chips. Speaking of dehydration, you should always ensure you have enough water for everybody on board. We recommend at least three gallons of water per person for every day you sail.

PROPER CLOTHING

A swimsuit and a loose-fitting shirt may seem like the perfect outfit for an afternoon of relaxation, but it’s a good idea to consider the weather. If you plan to go out at night, you may want to bring long pants or a jacket to keep warm.

TOWELS

It’s normal to get wet when you’re on a boat. Whether you get splashed from the waves or go for a swim, it’s not always a good idea to drip dry. Pack a couple of towels to dry off after getting wet to ensure your soggy self doesn’t stop having fun.
